THE BIG LAUNCH !!!!!!!!
SEE SAW

Picture
We have just Launched See Saw for our senior infants .  It is an interacitve platform which will greatly enhance our learning at home .   Everybody should have recieved a code with clear instructions on how to join See Saw.  We hope to see you all over there !!! Please take the time to join us .

What is See Saw ?

Seesaw is a platform for student engagement. Teachers can empower students to create, reflect, share, and collaborate. Students “show what they know” using photos, videos, drawings, text, PDFs, and links. It’s simple to get student work in one place and share with families, and nothing is shared without teacher approval.
Hello Everyone !!!!
We all hope that you and your family are safe and well.  We will be updating our Senior infant webpage throughout our stay at home.  We hope you enjoy it !
Please remember we are not website experts !! If you have any problems or suggestions please let us know (send an email).

Estimating

Another skill we are working on is the skill of estimating, or making an educated guess. It is important to explain to your child that their estimate, or their guess, does not have to be correct. It's ok if they are wrong as long as they just carefully about it. Here is a great clip to show the skill of estimating.

Topic : Light

Light Sources

What objects give us light? Look around your house and outside, can you see things that give us light?
Some of them are natural and some of them are man-made.  Draw a picture of some of these light sources. You can use this worksheet to help you or draw a picture on a page at home.

There are lots of things you could do to explore shadows outside. You can play around with your own shadow outside and watch as it changes place and follows you. You could take pictures of interesting shadows you find outside.  Below we are giving you example of different ideas you could do too.

Story Time !!

Here are four stories that have something to do with night, stars, moon and light.  We hope you enjoy them and as always you can turn down the volume and see can you read them by yourselves.

Activity

It would also be super if you drew a picture of the story you liked the  best.  Joyce's favourite is Goodnight Moon because she used to read it to her own children.

News Time!!!
Dear Parents ,
When we are in school we usually write 'Our News' once a week.  The class would usually  meet together and share their news and talk about the weather .   We would then create 3-4 short sentences  based on the news and ask the children to copy it into their copybooks.  Recently we have being encouraging the children to  write their own sentences without any guidance from us.    Using these photos below as a guide,  see can your child write the news. They can use photo no.2 to look for words that might help them create their own senescent

What are Dolch Words?
Dolch words are high frequency English vocabulary commonly used to teach children to read. Learning to recognize them automatically can facilitate fluency in reading.
Think of the most common English articles, prepositions, conjunctions, adjectives, adverbs and verbs (a, and, away, big, blue, can, come, down) and you’ll get a good idea of the list.Who can benefit from Dolch words?Dolch words, also known as sight words, account for between 50-75% of all vocabulary found in Primary reading material.

Self Potraits !!!

We drew some self portraits. We took our time and worked very hard. We are going to put them up in our classroom to make a nice gallery.

Class Mascots

Each Senior Infant class has their own mascot. In Senior Infants 1 he is called Devlin and Senior Infants 2 he is called Dudley.  Devlin and Dudley get to go home with the star of the week.  They both have their own book, where all their adventures are recorded.
