Our Wishes for 2016.......
We have started Drama with Lisa on Tuesdays. Lisa is an excellent Drama teacher and really gets the best out of us. We enjoyed our first day so much.
Tom and John enjoyed making masks in 4th class recently.
Mihailo became part of his art in 6th!
Well done to Nikki who presented his project to his friends in 3rd class.
Dylan and his Student Council colleagues made their presentation to MADRA from the fundraiser the school did before Christmas.
Well done to Tom who had a great week coaching in the yard.
We had our second week of Drama with Lisa. We were working on making eye contact, turntaking, waiting, making choices, creating ideas, improvising, interpreting, speaking clearly, working with a partner etc. etc. We are learning so much.
Well done to Jack who is participating so well during Drama on Tuesdays.
Week three and we are going from strength to strength.
Visual Arts - Snowflakes
We smashed up some old compact discs to make snowflakes. It was fun.
For the month of January we were keeping things light and healthy in the kitchen after all the excess at Christmas time. We made Hummus every week we had cooking during January. There were so many variations. We made Plain Hummus, Lemon & Coriander Hummus, Avocado Hummus and Roasted Red Pepper Hummus. Not everyone liked it but everyone helped to make it and tasted it. The majority enjoyed Avocado Hummus the most. Recipe below for you to try at home.
This year February will have 29 days, so it is a Leap Year!
REEP - St. Brigid's Day
February 1st is St. Brigid's Day.
Week 4 and you should see how much our confidence has grown in such a short space of time using simple activities.
To celebrate St. Brigid's Day we baked Brown Bread. We followed a very simple recipe called, Pint Glass Brown Bread. We have included it below for you to try at home.
This week was 'ew'.
CHINESE NEW YEAR
Monday February 8th is Chinese New Year. 2016 is the year of the Monkey. Dylan was born in the year of the Monkey. Click below to find out some interesting facts about the year of the monkey.

We coloured in some Geometric shaped monkeys.
We cooked a Chinese Stir Fry and Chinese Pancakes. Yum, yum!
Thanks to Lisa for a wonderful five weeks of fun and learning through Drama! We really had a great time each week. Looking forward to next year already.

We have started horseriding on Tuesdays in Athenry at the Galway Equestrian Centre. Our friend Garda Ciara is driving us each week. Míle buíochas Ciara!! Our TY friends from Taylors Hill are supporting us each week on the horses. Thank you girls. Looking forward to a great few weeks.

Well done to Mihailo for excellent presentation of written work.
GETNS are a changemaker school. Recently we were visited by a number of principals from schools around Ireland. The student council had a Q&A session with them. Dylan did a great job representing all in Seomra Shona.
In September Mihailo will begin attending his new school, the JES. He recently visited the school and met his new principal, his new teacher and SNAs and some of his new classmates.
Week 2 and we are like pros already!
Dylan and his team came 2nd in the 5th/6th class basketball lunchtime league. Congratulations Dylan!
World Book Day
March 3rd was World Book Day. We did lots of different activities including making smaller/more words from the three words World Book Day. How many can you make?
GETNS are working hard on getting their next green flag. In Seomra Shona we are working on recycling. Building on all the information we already know.
Italian in 3rd class has come to an end. Nikki and Jack enjoyed learning new words and phrases in Italian. They had a great day in NUIG at the Italian quiz.

Spring Scavenger Hunt
We went on a Spring Scavenger Hunt to Dangan recently. It was a beautiful day and we had great fun trying to find items on two lists that we had. We love getting out and about. It makes learning so much more meaningful, interesting and fun!!!!
